Savannah is a wonderful place to have a dog. Between the live oaks, the mild seasons, and a community that genuinely loves its pets, there’s no shortage of room to run. If you’re looking for a spot to let your pup stretch their legs and make a few four-legged friends, here are some of the area’s highest-rated off-leash dog parks — along with an honest look at what to expect at each.

Herty Pines Dog Park — Midtown

Bee Road, Savannah (at Daffin Park) · ~4.5 stars

A longtime local favorite and one of the busiest dog parks in town. Set among tall pines, it has separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, plenty of shade, water, and well-stocked waste-bag stations. The walking path that loops the surrounding park is beautiful and great for a stroll afterward. Heads-up: the ground is sandy dirt and pine straw rather than grass, so it can get muddy after rain — and there’s no rinse station, so you may want a towel in the car.

Mohawk Dog Park — Southside

1134 Mohawk Street, Savannah · ~4.5 stars

A quieter, more open option with real grass and a divider between the large- and small-dog sides. There’s a water station, secure double-gated entries, benches, and a walking path that runs partway around the adjacent lake. It tends not to be crowded, which is great if your dog does better with fewer playmates. The trade-off is limited shade, so it can get hot in the Savannah summer — best enjoyed in the morning or evening.

Mother Mathilda Beasley Park Dog Park — Downtown

500 E Broad Street, Savannah · ~4.4 stars

The most convenient choice if you’re in or near the Historic District. Tucked behind the main park, this fenced off-leash area is long enough for a real run, with fresh water, covered seating, a rinse area, and separate spaces for big and small dogs. It does sit low, so it’s prone to puddles and mud after heavy rain — worth checking the forecast before you go.

Tom Triplett Park Dog Park — Pooler

100 Tom Triplett Road, Pooler · ~4.6 stars

Part of a large, scenic community park with a pond, trails, and clean restrooms — a nice destination if you want to make a morning of it. The dog park itself has two fenced areas by size, water, and waste stations, shaded by pines. Two things to know: the dog park is roughly three-quarters of a mile from the entrance, and the surface is sandy, so your dog will likely come home happily dirty.

Bryan County Bark Park — Richmond Hill (Worth the Drive)

215 Henderson Park Boulevard, Richmond Hill · ~4.7 stars

The highest-rated park on this list, and the one people drive out of their way for. The large-dog side has a swimming pond, there’s an agility area, professional-style dog-washing stations, and lots of seating — so your pup can swim, play, and get rinsed off before the ride home. It’s a bit of a walk in from parking, but regulars say it’s well worth it.

A Few Tips Before You Go

A great dog park day starts before you leave the house. A few things that keep the experience safe and fun for everyone:

• Make sure vaccinations and parasite prevention are current. Group play means close contact with other dogs, so up-to-date protection matters before your pup joins the pack.
• Bring your own water. Savannah’s heat and humidity are no joke, and on-site fountains aren’t always working. Watch for heavy panting and give frequent breaks in the shade.
• Know your dog’s recall and read the room. Not every dog enjoys a crowded park — the quieter spots above are a gentler introduction.
• Plan for mud. A towel and a little patience go a long way after a rainy-season visit.
