Our Community in Savannah, GA

Caring for pets doesn’t stop at the exam room door. At Case Veterinary Hospital, being part of Savannah means showing up for the community in meaningful ways, whether that’s supporting local rescues, participating in events, or helping connect pets with the care and resources they need. These partnerships allow us to stay connected with the people and pets we serve every day, while also giving back to the city that has supported our practice for generations.

Supporting Savannah’s Pets & Families

Dr. Torres helped establish Barkus & Meoux Savannah, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit inspired by the Mardi Gras Krewe in Louisiana. The organization focuses on promoting responsible pet ownership, supporting local rescue groups, and providing assistance to families facing financial hardship when their pets need urgent care.

Through fundraising efforts and community programs, Barkus & Meoux Savannah helps fill important gaps by offering support when it’s needed most and creating opportunities for pet owners to stay engaged. The group hosts regular meetups and pet-friendly events, with plans to bring a Mardi Paws-style pet parade to Savannah in the future.

Supporting the Next Generation of Veterinary Professionals The Kenny Weaver Scholarship

We are proud to partner with Ogeechee Technical College’s Veterinary Technician program through the Kenny Weaver Scholarship. This annual scholarship honors Kenny Weaver, a dedicated team member who spent 47 years growing from Animal Care Assistant to Licensed Veterinary Technician before retiring in July 2025.

The scholarship reflects our commitment to supporting students as they prepare for meaningful careers in veterinary medicine. The first Kenny Weaver Scholarship recipient, Caren Gomez, was awarded in September 2025.

Each year, one $1,000 scholarship is awarded to an eligible Ogeechee Technical College Veterinary Technology student and distributed in two installments for the Fall and Spring semesters. Students must meet the college’s scholarship requirements, including enrollment and academic standing criteria. Full eligibility details are available through Ogeechee Technical College’s Foundation Scholarships page.

Veterinary Student Externship Mentorship Hands-On Learning for Future Veterinary Professionals

We also welcome opportunities to mentor veterinary professional students during externships. Our team values the chance to support students as they gain clinical experience, build confidence, and learn from real-world veterinary practice.

Students interested in externship mentorship opportunities may contact kwise@casevet.com for more information.

A Healthy Start for Newly Adopted Pets $5 Adoption Wellness Start Exam

Bringing home a newly adopted pet is exciting, but those first few days can also come with questions. Our Adoption Wellness Start Exam helps new pet owners establish care quickly, check for early health concerns, and start the relationship with a veterinary team.

Through this program, eligible newly adopted pets receive a $5 Adoption Wellness Start Exam when care is established within the required timeframe.

Program highlights include:

  • $5 wellness start exam for newly adopted pets
  • Priority scheduling within 7 days of adoption
  • Veterinary care must be established within 10 days of adoption
  • Open to pets adopted from a rescue, shelter, or qualifying organization

We currently provide program brochures to select partners, including Renegade and One Love, and hope to expand access to more adopted pets and rescue organizations.

Events We’re Proud to Be Part Of

You’ll often find our team out in the community, connecting with pet owners and supporting causes that make a difference.

Wag-O-Ween with Renegade Paws Rescue

Each year, we participate in Wag-O-Ween, one of Savannah’s most well-loved pet events. Hosted across Downtown and the Starland District, this multi-day event invites pet owners to dress up and “trick-or-treat” with their pets while supporting local rescues.

With thousands of attendees and significant funds raised for spay and neuter programs, Wag-O-Ween is a meaningful way for the community to come together, and we’re proud to be part of it.

Doggie Carnival at Forsyth Park

We also take part in the annual Doggie Carnival hosted by Woof Gang Bakery, held in Forsyth Park. This event brings together pets and their families for a day of activities, treats, and connection, all while raising funds for the Humane Society of Greater Savannah.

It’s one of our favorite opportunities to spend time with clients outside the hospital and meet new faces in the community.

WhiskerCon with One Love Animal Rescue

Our team has also partnered with One Love Animal Rescue for events like WhiskerCon, a cat-focused gathering that brings together rescue organizations, pet lovers, and the community. Events like these help shine a light on adoptable pets while supporting the organizations that care for them.

Staying Connected to the Community We Serve

These partnerships and events reflect what matters most to us: supporting pets not just during appointments, but throughout their lives.

Whether we’re helping at a fundraiser, meeting clients at a local event, or supporting rescue organizations behind the scenes, we’re proud to be part of a community that shows up for its animals.

We look forward to seeing you and your pet out in Savannah.
